1015 FOLSOM
Yesterday I had a walk through at 1015 Folsom, for the art showcase I'll be featured in on May 8th. I thought it would be a good idea to show a behind the scenes view of the venue and the interesting people involved in throwing this awesome envent. But then, like a dummy, I forgot to take pictures. I tend to do this often. So instead, I drew you some pictures. When I first arrived, it felt like I was walking into some kind of social experiment. All the artists taking part in the showcase were seated along the back wall. I found an empty seat near the end. I was greeted politely by 2 fellow artists next to me. We then continued to exchange awkward small talk in between 2-3 minute gaps of awkward silence. Meeting new people is the best. Finally, when we got started we had to, one by one, introduce ourselves and our choice of medium, and state one interesting fact about ourselves. I was one of the last people to go, so I figured I could come up with at least one interesting fact about myself in this time...nope. People before me had traveled the world. One guy spoke 5 languages! By my earlier attempt at small talk, I can barely speak one! One guy won some big contest designing a New Era hat. One lady makes jewelry out of bones! When it came to me:"Hi, I'm Andrew. I'm a painter... and I have a 5 month old son. As soon as I said it, I could hear a voice in my head scream, "Nobody cares!!!" and come to think of it, I might have said I have a 5 year old son. Then, to make matters even worse, I said "I'm sure that's not very interesting to most of you, but yeah..." and I didn't end my thought. And then the lady next to me said she won a national title as NCAA mascot of the year.
After we went through the rundown of the night and took a tour of the venue, we had the chance to choose where we set up our wall/booth for the night. I think I have a pretty good spot. When you walk through the main entrance, there's a bar to your right and the DJ booth to your left. I will be along the front wall on the far corner, right across from the bar. Also, to get to the door that leads to the stage and live music/runway show, you'll have to pass my booth, make a left and walk down a ramp which leads to the door.
Once you walk through that door, it leads to a large room, with the stage to your left, another DJ booth to your right, and another bar along the far wall across from you. There is a second level which will be used as a green room/staging area for the artists.
Hopefully you can make it. It should be a fun night, with lots of art, music and fashion. The show is Thursday, May 8th | 7pm at 1015 Folsom. If you haven't bought a ticket yet, you can do so right here. Just make sure you're buying tickets for "FATKID" on the dropdown menu. Thanks again!Never ever grow up!- Dru
