WHY FATKID?
I've been asked several times recently why I chose the name Fatkid. My response? "Well, when I was a kid... I was fat." It's pretty much that simple. That and I thought there was a nice ring to it. So with the name, as well as most of my artwork, you're not going to find a lot of hidden, deeper meaning to it. I'm the least "artsy" artist I know. I'm pretty straight forward. I was fat as a kid, so I'm calling this Fatkid. I like sharks and I thought it would be cool to have a fat kid riding said shark, so I drew it.
But the cool thing about art, is that it's not up to me to decide what a piece is about. It's completely up to the viewer. My friend Jeff loved "Riding Giants" because to him, it was about seizing a moment. Facing your fears. I loved hearing this because I hadn't thought that deeply into it, and after hearing what it meant to him, I kinda wish I had. So I'm going to continue to try my best to make cool shit. And you can continue to tell me what it's all about.- Dru
