SHAKA MOUSE

I kinda just wanted to see what Mickey Mouse would look like if his whole body was inked up. My wife, as well as all her siblings, have been dancing Tahitian for Ote'a Api since forever. I've always admired the culture and thought the artistry of Polynesian tattoos is just beautiful. I, myself, am obviously not a Polynesian tattoo artist. So, undertaking this painting made me very scared and nervous. It still does. The last thing I would ever want to do is disrespect the culture, so I tried to do as much research and referencing as possible when it came to adding the tattoos to Mickey. My hope is that people see it as me giving homage and honoring the culture, and nothing less.Shaka Mouse is probably my personal favorite to date and it will always be very special to me because it was my first painting that I sold.
